Farm Bed and Breakfasts!

Want to take Your Children to Stay on a Farm? Here's Where to Find One Nearby!

Many people are finding rest and relaxation these days in a rather unusual place.a farm. It is becoming popular for working farms to feature Bed and Breakfast inns on their property. Vacationers love them because they provide an escape from their city lifestyles. These retreats afford visitors an opportunity to be in the country and have contact with animals they don't normally see. It's also a great place for kids to stay. Guests are welcome to help with chores, or they can just kick back and relax. The breakfast at a farm Bed and Breakfast is usually more filling than what you may find at other Bed and Breakfasts. Many feature large country breakfasts of eggs, bacon, ham, pancakes, and toast.

Bed and Breakfasts in general, revolve around a slower pace of life. Farm Bed and Breakfasts allow guests to experience farm life in addition to all the other amenities found at this type of lodging. The farm B&B can be found from coast to coast and I have chosen a few to highlight. Canaan Land Farm B&B, located in Harrodsburg, Kentucky is a working sheep farm where guests can watch the birth of a lamb and visit with a variety of friendly barnyard animals such as cows, donkeys, goats and peacocks during their stay. Guests can also view an assortment of wildlife or partake in bird watching or hiking. Whitefish Bay Farm of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin is located in picturesque Door County. This B&B is on a farm that raises Corriedale sheep and boasts an art gallery that features works of local artists.

Cedarcroft Farm B&B in Warrensburg, Missouri is a horse farm that resides on eighty acres of woods, meadows and streams. It is not uncommon to see deer, wild turkeys, coyotes, or even a bobcat here. Knolle Farm & Ranch Bed, Barn & Breakfast is located in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Knolle Farm was once a renowned dairy farm consisting of Jersey cows, but they now raise Red Angus beef cattle and horses. Their commercial cow-calf operation includes approximately 500 cows. Those who choose to stay at this ranch have the option of bringing their horses along as well. Guests can also partake in bird watching or hunting duck, geese or quail.

Maple Lane Farm B&B is located in the Kennebac River valley in central, coastal Maine. This small, diversified farm contains Belted Galloway cattle, Percheron draft horses, and Aracauna chickens that lay blue eggs. If you spend the night here, you may hear loons or great horned owls. Cave Hill Farm B&B in Harrisonburg, Virginia delights visitors with its dairy cows and 200,000 turkeys. In Avella, Pennsylvania, one will discover Weatherbury Farm B&B, a farm with cows and sheep, as well as a working blacksmith shop. Roundstone Farm Bed and Breakfast can be found in Olema, California. This farm raises Connemara ponies and Arabian horses, and more than 360 species of birds live in the area. It has been noted as the perfect place to pause, reflect, and refresh.

Although not an ideal getaway for farm folk, farm Bed and Breakfasts can be a refreshing change for urban dwellers or "city slickers." See the cows being milked or milk one yourself, observe the birth of a calf, lamb, pig or horse, collect chicken eggs, and feed the baby animals. You certainly couldn't experience any of this at a hotel. Consider staying at a farm for your next vacation or weekend getaway. Please send email to stacey@agselect.com

Vogt Farm - PA - We welcome you to Lancaster County and our beautiful farm, with the cows in the meadow. This farm was built by Mennonites in the mid-1800s, and you will find lodging here friendly and accommodating. 2006 is all about food in Lancaster County, and it begins at breakfast.

Rocky Acre Farm Bed & Breakfast - Family-style fun awaits at our 200 year old dairy farm. Your family can discover the joys of the simple life by feeding a newborn calf or gathering eggs from the henhouse. Whether you're milking a cow or watching the children ride a gentle miniature horse, petting a lively goat or cuddling a purring kitten, the whole family will love Rocky Acre Farm!

Built just for kids, a colorful playhouse sets the stage for hours of imaginative fun while the grown-ups enjoy our old-fashioned swing set. Watch it all from the beautiful porch that overlooks the wooded creek and rolling hills.

Take a hayride through the rolling hills of Lancaster County's farmland!

Enjoy a hearty breakfast family-style! Your meal may include: Pancakes, waffles or french toast with homemade preserves, tasty sausage, hash-brown potatoes, straight-from-the-oven baked goods, fresh fruit or homemade applesauce, juice, hot coffee and tea, and fresh milk. We're happy to accommodate your special dietary needs.

Victorian-style elegance invites you to converse with new and old friends! Once part of the Underground Railroad, Rocky Acre Farm is filled with history and hospitality!

The Farmhouse at Riverbar Farm

is home to owners Peter & Sharmon Kenyon who operate a farm stay/bed and breakfast inn.  Built in 1905, the house was completely renovated in 2003 to provide guests a comfortable, informal escape from modern life.  No Victoriana, our guestrooms are decorated in Mission style; we have a sitting room, many books, a collection of landscape prints by local artists, and a butler named Lionel. Note that all four guest rooms are on the second floor (20 steps).  The Farm is 18 acres located on California's North Coast in Humboldt County, about 20 miles south of Eureka, near Fortuna and near the Avenue of the Giants (a scenic drive through the Redwood Forest).  We grow a pumpkin patch and corn maze along with sweet corn, squash, and sunflowers.  We raise a few beef cattle and pigs each year.  We have chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese; when they cooperate, you can collect eggs for breakfast.  We share the farm with wild California Quail, Redtail Hawks, Kestrels, Blue Herons, Egrets, Gophers, and Deer.  We've seen eagles and river otters.   We enjoy life on the farm and we hope to be able to share it with you whether you're coming to Humboldt County for a special event or just passing through.
