regulations. While many states allow some low-risk foods to be made at home and sold in smaller quantities, many foods intended for sale can only be
made in a licensed kitchen. If you want to make and sell your home-made preserves, salsa, spaghetti sauce, refrigerated foods or whatever, you will need
a licensed kitchen to prepare and can the food. many licensed kitchens open their doors at low cost to local food entrepreneurs. If you would rather

Food Manager's Certification
Businesses/Owners/Managers may need to have at least one employee who has a Food Manager's Certification. This is usually required by the local
city government..
Food Handler's Certification
If you have a Food Manager's Certification you DO NOT need a Food Handler's Certification. Your city may require each employee of your food
business have a Food Handler's Certificate .
Application for a Food Enterprise Permit
This permit is issued by your city's Health Department and is usually mandatory for operating a food-related business. If you use a commercial
kitchen, they must receive a copy of this permit. Typically, you will need to have an agreement with the commercial kitchen BEFORE you apply for
this permit with the city. The application is often on the city website.
If you still can't find a suitable kitchen, you may need a co-packers. Co-packers manufacture and package foods for other companies - and
small food businesses - to sell. See this list of co-packers in your area.
