Aspargus Festivals in 2024: Where, When and More to Find a Deutsche Spargelfeste!

Germans love blanched asparagus, "spargel", which is regular asparagus which is kept out of the light while it is growing, so instead of being green, it is while! Germans even refer to it as königliche Gemüse (royal vegetable). In Germany, the spargelzeit or asparagus season usually starts in mid-April and ends in mid-June.

The asparagus farms ( spargelhöfe ) predominant southernwest Germany in the states of Baden-Württemberg, and also in Lower Saxony in the northwest, and Beelitz in the northeast.

  • Beelitzer Spargelfest  - always held on the first weekend in June
    "Spargelstadt Beelitz", near Berlin. This town, Beelitz, is obseessed with spargel, even having a Spargelmuseum and an annual Beelitzer Spargelfest festival. The festival has live music, food stands, fireworks, a parade, children's activities and of course, lots of food with asparagus. Visit the farms like Jakobs-Hof, Buschmann & Winkelmann, and Spargelhof Elsholz.
  • The Badische Spargelstrasse
    This is more like  a farm trail or farm tour, from the northern area of Baden-Württemberg for 136 kilometers from the town of Schwetzingen to Scherzheim via Reilingen, Karlsruhe, and Rastatt
  • Schwetzingen - asparagus market on the first Saturday in May
    The town has a market festival every year during the season.
  • Spargeldorf Walbeck Spargelfest - April and May
    Walbeck, Germany. They hold 2 months of asparagus-related festivities, with a spargel princess, a spargel craft market, a parade through the town, a family day, and an Asparagus Village Festival.
  • Niedersächsische Spargelstraße -
    Spargel market, Hanover, Germany.
    Another farm trail in northwestern Germany covering 750 kilometers from Lüneburger Heide to the Hanover Region. It includes the Braunschweiger Land, the Lüneburg Heath nature preserve, the Mittelweser Region, and the Oldenburger Münsterland.   In Nienburg visit the Lower Saxony Asparagus Museum.
  • Bruchsal Tour de Spargel in Schloss Bruchsal -
    Bruchsal, Germany.  Near Stuttgart, this area is one of the biggest asparagus-producing regions with many farms growing asparagus.
  • Spargelhof Kutzleben - mid-April to May
    Kutzleben, Thuringia, Germany. You can visit the many the fields where asparagus is farmed, and see the seasonol Asparagus Tent restaurant in Kutzleben.
  • Schrobenhausen -
    Schrobenhausen, Bavaria, Germany. An annual spargel market is held at the Lenbachplatz building. There are festivities like an asparagus queen, and even a European Spargel Museum.
