Looking for a local, pick-your-own farm in Fredericksburg, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula? Scroll down this page and you will see the U-Pick farms in Fredericksburg, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, sorted by county. Those that offer organic or sustainably grown produce are identified by the words "organic" and/or "sustainable" in Green, next to their name  (see "What does Organic mean?"). New! We just went live with our latest website, FunFactoryTours.com - As they name implies, you can find a fun factory tour, including chocolate, automobiles, historical forts and sites, famous buildings, Active Federal facilities even fun geology: like fossils and volcanic areas

Note: Beware the copycat websites like the one that stole our name and uses .farm extension: they copied my work and do NOT even update the info! I make updates EVERY day. They use tech tricks to get higher rankings, but have many more inaccuracies and out-dated info. Obviously, I cannot check every farm every day, but I do check as many as I can every day, and respond to all requests.  They don't. Don't support the scammers!

Remember to always check with the farm's own website or Facebook page before you go - or call or email them if they don't have a website or Facebook page. Conditions at the farms and crops can change literally overnight, so if you want to avoid a wasted trip out there - check with the farm directly before you go! And if you know of any farms I missed and want to add a farm, please let me know!   I'm making updates for this year as fast as I can - if you find anything out-of-date, wrong or not working - please let me know! What's in season in November 2024, and other timely information:

Notes for November 2024: Crop growth is slowing down, except for Christmas tree farms and if you live in southern California, southern Texas, Florida or along the Gulf coast where citrus are starting, and believe it or not, the blueberry and strawberry season in those areas is about to begin. See your state harvest calendar . This year, much of the country is still seeing mild weather, so lettuce, peas, broccoli, cabbage  and other greens are thriving.  And this is a good time to get a canner and  learn how to preserve foods for the winter, like canning some applesauce, apple butter or jam, which make great gifts. As do your own homemade specialty liqueurs! How about homemade cranberry sauce or a pumpkin pie made from a real pumpkin for the holidays? See our comprehensive list of easy home canning, jam and jelly making, preserving, drying and freezing directions. You can access recipes and other resources from the drop down menus at the top of the page or the site search. A fun winter activity is to make your own ice cream, even gelato, or low fat or low sugar ice cream - see this page. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to write me!

Comments from a visitor on August 02, 2009: "My husband and I went picking at Pleasant Fields Farm this morning. Blackberries were plentiful, and raspberries were just beginning to come into season. Blueberries were advertised, but were picked clean. The farm is open from daylight to dark. Today (a Sunday) it was operating on the honor system, and cash or checks could be left for payment. There was a nice farm stand with lots of produce pre=picked: watermelons, corn, butternut squash, zucchini, acorn squash, eggplants, apples, oranges, peaches, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, a variety of potatoes, lemons, limes, and fresh honey. I don't know how much of it was local (the tomatoes and honey definitely were). No fresh cut flowers available, but we weren't looking for them anyway. There is a restroom available."

Comments from a visitor on July 02, 2016: "If no one is there, they have an honor policy on what you pick and how to pay. Do bring your bug spray, because the very nearby marsh can cause some very hungry mosquitoes. There are no restrooms or frills, just yummy berries. It is truly a treat to go and pick your own and make something special with your kids and mine really appreciate the break from the city life to do such things. I picked there as a child and now I am giving that gift to my children. Many of the bushes are well over the height of 6ft so you don't even have to bend over to pick. The berries are always plum and jucy. I have been picking my blueberries there for over 20 years. You can pick your own and weigh them for a price or the Family's grandchildren will pick yours for you, for a price."

Comments from a visitor on July 12, 2011: "We pick strawberries here every year, including this year (we went twice!). That's an excellent farm. Late in the strawberry season, they reduce their prices as the picking gets more scarce. As your listing already says, they do u-pick strawberries & blackberries. They have an outstanding farm market with fresh produce, local meat, dairy, honey, preserves, gifts, plants, etc. They have a picnic & play area, and they're a super nice farm family. Their only down side is that they aren't open on Sundays, which is frequently the only day I have free for a u-pick adventure. That's how we ended up going to Mt. Olympus instead. Both are great places, I would easily recommend either one.".. (
Comments from a visitor on May 26, 2010: "Miller Farms Markets is still up and running, and we will be picking strawberries there this weekend. I'll report back!"

  • Westmoreland Berry Farm - Permanently closed
Colonial Beach, VA 22443. UPDATE for 2020, Their Facebook page says they no longer offer Pick-your-own "we have made the decision to close Westmoreland Berry Farm and no longer be open to the public. We will be changing the operations and implementing more traditional farming practices. There are many reasons that have led us to this decision but the main one is a strong belief in our family values. Operating the farm as we were was taking us away from valuable time with our children and the recent born grandchildren.". Click here for a link to our Facebook page.
