Remember to always check with the farm's own website or Facebook page before you go - or call or email them if they don't have a website or Facebook page. Conditions at the farms and crops can change literally overnight, so if you want to avoid a wasted trip out there - check with the farm directly before you go! Notes for November 2024: Crop growth is slowing down, except for Christmas tree farms and if you live in southern California, southern Texas, Florida or along the Gulf coast where citrus are starting, and believe it or not, the blueberry and strawberry season in those areas is about to begin. See your state harvest calendar . This year, much of the country is still seeing mild weather, so lettuce, peas, broccoli, cabbage  and other greens are thriving.  And this is a good time to get a canner and  learn how to preserve foods for the winter, like canning some applesauce, apple butter or jam, which make great gifts. As do your own homemade specialty liqueurs! How about homemade cranberry sauce or a pumpkin pie made from a real pumpkin for the holidays? • Chico State College of Agriculture - Peaches

The annual "U-Pick Peaches" event at the California State University, Chico's University Farm takes place in mid-August in accordance with the ripening of the fruit. California State University, Chico will open University Farm so the community can enjoy its delicious peaches, a beloved annual event enjoyed by our community. In lieu of the popular "U-Pick Peaches," however, the farm will host socially distanced drive-through peach sales on August 5 to 7, 2020  from 8:30 am to noon, or until supplies run out. "We have an incredible crop of beautiful Fay Elberta peaches this year," University Farm Administrator Dave Daley said, "and in order to ensure the health and safety of our guests, we came up with our drive-through concept that allows us to continue to provide the fresh-picked local fruit that has become such a summertime tradition in our community." The Fay Elberta peach, a longtime favorite at University Farm, is a large, yellow-skinned freestone with a little red blush, has fairly good shape and nice flavor, and is a popular variety for canning.  The ripe peaches will be picked early each morning by farm staff wearing masks and gloves. The peaches will be gently boxed in flats, each weighing approximately 10 pounds, and sold by the flat for $25 each using exact change, credit cards, or checks made out to "Chico State University Farm." Directions: The University Farm is located south of Chico. Follow the signs to the drive-through peach sales, which will take place in the main parking lot next to the Pavilion. Guests are asked to remain in their cars, and a staff member will bring the peaches to the car.
